Cool Psychiatrist teaches Turtle to do funny tricks

Friday, December 14th, 2007

It’s time to meet a little bit different kind of turtle. One that performes tricks.

Florida psychologist said that this little turtle has helped many children deal with their fears. He has been using Florida in his sessions with patients for a long time.

When 7 year old Ariana Wible started having nightmares a year ago , she went to see Spero and in no time became friend with little turtle.

“I thought he was pretty slow at first, but when I saw him run, he was really fast,” Wible said. “Faster than a regular turtle could run.”

Spero who trained Florida himself said: “I thought it was really cool that you could train a turtle to do that, and I thought anything is possible,” and explained to us how he used Florida to help children to overcome various obstacles, like dealing with parents divorce.

“I put a doll on the back of the turtle, and he literally carried her from one house to the other, back and forth,” Spero said. “And she finally understood the concept that Mommy was going to have a house and Daddy was going to have a house, and it was OK for her to go back and forth.”

Cool Experiment vs. Fear

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

fearless mouseRemember Tom and Jerry? What if i tell you that there is a mouse that acts exactly like Jerry? And by “acts exactly like Jerry” I do mean he does not fear cats. Not just Tom. All cats.

Researchers at Tokyo University managed to turn off the receptors in a mouse’s brain that react to the scent of it’s main predator. The cat.

There’s a common belief that fear is product of experience. And that’s where the scientists got the idea for this cool experiment. They wanted to prove that fear is genetically programmed.

Scary Crazy Record

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

If you are a Guinness record holder you don’t want anyone to top that of course. Matthew McKnight from Connellsville actually hopes nobody will, because his record is nothing to brag about. He earned his place in “The Book” by being thrown 118ft in a car accident.

This 29-year-old lived to tell about being thrown almost 36m by a car that hit him while traveling about 70mph. This happened on October 26, 2001 while McKnight was trying to help victims along Interstate 376 in Monroeville, 15 miles from Pitsburg.

He suffered two dislocated shoulders plus a broken shoulder, pelvis, leg and tailbone. After two weeks in the hospital and 80 days in rehab he finally returned to work in April 2002.

Not so funny History – Crazy Book bound in Human Skin

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

the bookOne of the craziest auctions took place this Sunday at Wilkinson’s Auctioneers in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. What’s so crazy about it? How about 17th century book believed to be bound in human skin. Crazy enough for you?

As if this isn’t enough the legend about the book goes further. According to it a piece of bloodstained straw at the scene of his execution started to develop an exact image of the priest’s face, which auctioneers suggest has happened to the book.

Apparently books bound in human skin aren’t exactly rare: A number of prestigious libraries – including Harvard University’s – have such books in their collections.

This particular one was made in London in 1606 by Robert Barker, the Kings printer just couple of months after Jesuit priest was executed. Garnet’s involvement in the plot by Catholics to kill King James I and most of the Protestant aristocracy by blowing up the Houses of Parliament has long been debated.T

Shunguo said that his sweat turned green in the middle of November. “I noticed that my underwear and bed sheets were all green, and even the water in the shower” He wasn’t feeling any discomfort nor he does at the moment but he was concerned about his health and checked into Wuhan City hospital.

Strangely Indian teenager stayed alive after safety rail went straight trough his head in a bus crash

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

One would think that 4ft metal rail can kill you especially if it goes trough your head. Well think again

An Indian teenager missed death by a millimeter when a 4ft safety rail went straight trough his head in a bus crash.

Manish Rajpurohit said: “It struck my head and embedded me into the seat. I was stuck there crying ‘Help me!? as loud as I could.”
When help finally came he had to slide his head along the metal pole to give the rescuers enough room to cut him free from the seat. If you think that’s it he’s saved hurrah… you’re wrong.
He then had to walk along the bus with the remaining piece of the pole sticking out of his head just to score an hour long ride in a rickshaw to the hospital.

Herman Wabomba, the spokesperson for the hospital said “It was a brave fight for his life on both occasions”.

Moses Lekalau was from a nomadic community in which it is a ritual for boys to kill lions as a sign of entering manhood.
