A Tamaqua man who told police he was only joking when he entered a Schuylkill County Wal-Mart SuperCenter on Friday and gave a cashier a note saying ”I have a gun give me your money” has been jailed on an attempted armed robbery charge.
Brian Klunsman, 30, of 345 E. Elm St. walked into the store at 35 Plaza Drive in the village of Hometown in Rush Township at 11:23 a.m. and handed the cashier a note in all capital letters, Rush Township police said in an affidavit filed with District Judge Stephen J. Bayer of Tamaqua.
The affidavit gave this account:
The cashier, whose name police did not release, told Klunsman she had just opened her register and didn’t have much cash. Klunsman then told her ”It’s a joke,” and walked away and toward a bank inside the store.
The store called Schuylkill 911, and police responded to the store, reviewed the security camera tape and identified the suspect as Klunsman.
Police found Klunsman, who admitted using the note, but again said it was a joke. He was taken into custody without incident and arraigned before Bayer on charges of attempted armed robbery and recklessly endangering another person and sent to county prison under $15,000 cash bail.
